Eligibility and Program Requirements

Requirements to Begin the ACE Program

· Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
· Valid or pending Michigan teaching certificate
· Hold at least one prior endorsement in special education

Endorsement Requirements (in order of completion)

· Students must complete an approved Plan of Study  with their home university.

· Students must take one course from each of the following categories:

     - Introduction/Overview
     - Collaboration/Consultation
     - Instructional Interventions
     - Language/Communications
     - Behavioral Issues and Interventions
     - Practicum

· Students must complete a course from the Introduction/Overview category first or have taken an equivalent course approved by the home university. Subsequent courses may be taken in any order and students may opt to take more than one course at a time.

· The practicum is the final 3 credit course in this 18 credit hour endorsement. Students must obtain approval from the home university in order to begin the supervised practicum experience. Registration for the practicum is handled directly through the home university.

· Students must achieve a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 for admission to the practicum.

· Students must pass the practicum according to standards set by the home university.

· Students must pass the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification  in the area of autism before the state will issue an endorsement.
